This is a Honduran chicken coop. Not quite up to Eric Anderson standards, but its pretty good. Chickens are great to have around the yard, as they eat lots of undesirable things, like scorpions, bugs, and some snakes.

The monkeys were in the back yard again the other morning. It turns out that the Howler monkey is the loudest land mammal in the world… And it’s in our back yard. they wake up early…

This is my office/exam room. For those of you who know me well, I want you to look closely at my desk. Note that there are not piles and piles of papers, and other debris stacked upon it. Yay, for paper charts!
This is my sink. I am thinking that is may not be completely sterile. Yes, that is a dead bug near the edge. there are lots of dead bugs everywhere. In fact, there are lots of live bugs everywhere as well. I guess that’s normal in the middle of the jungle
This is the counter in the Inpatient Ward. That is a beatle carcuss, being swarmed by very tiny little ants, which seem to be everywhere.
My first delivery in years… Healthy baby. delivered 2 more in last 2 days.

Found your blog through a Facebook friend and was particularly tickled at the YVFWC pen in your drawer! We have some friends that run “Little Hands Big Hearts” in Honduras and their daughter was a Dr. in Yakima and has traveled to Honduras a lot. Maybe she left it?! Too funny!

Thanks for stopping by! That would make sense… I am friends with Phil Young, and I understand that his Dad is a big part of that ministry. Maybe it was Phil’s sister who dropped by Loma de Luz? anyway, it is a small world indeed. I’m not sure what your skill set is, but they are always looking for people to do short and long term missions here, to share their time, treasure, and talent… Just saying 🙂

Dr. Dude, that most defiantly is not your desk unless you have come down with some strange “jungle” illness!!!!! It took me until tonight to find your blog. I “filed” my letter in a safe place and then couldn’t find it. It means so much to hear how much you and your family are enjoying your new life. I am so happy that you have found what has been missing from your calling to be the best darn doctor ever!! I will be checking frequently to read of your adventures! Take care and stay safe.

yes, we are having a great time here. It’s not without many challenges, but for now, they are all a welcome change.
Hope your family is doing well. Tell the boys that there isn’t any big game to hunt here, but theres plenty of spearfishing, and the people here like to hunt iguanas, which live in the trees and can get pretty big. and they are super fast. I bet a bow would take em’ down easy…
